Dans le d\u00e9sert, le peuple juif p\u00e9cheur est puni par un fl\u00e9au de serpents venimeux et meurtriers. Avec son b\u00e2ton, Mo\u00efse montre le serpent de bronze vers lequel il faut lever les yeux pour rester en vie (Nombr. 21:4-9) : une pr\u00e9figuration du Christ, \u00e9lev\u00e9 sur la croix, vers qui toute l\u2019humanit\u00e9 peut lever les yeux pour trouver le salut. Celui qui, comme le pr\u00eatre dans le pass\u00e9, regarde les victimes de pr\u00e8s ne restera pas indiff\u00e9rent : vous voyez la peur mortelle et le d\u00e9sespoir exprim\u00e9s dans le marbre comme dans un film sur arr\u00eat. Celui qui observe l\u2019ensemble, remarque comment les bras \u00e9tir\u00e9s et les regards ardents parviennent \u00e0 transformer la s\u00e9cheresse de l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e8nement en une sc\u00e8ne turbulente pleine de panique. Le regard s\u00e9v\u00e8re de Mo\u00efse donnant la direction impressionne : les traits du visage profond\u00e9ment sculpt\u00e9s cr\u00e9ent un fort relief d\u2019ombre qui renforce son r\u00f4le \u00e0 la fois autoritaire et apaisant. Le trompe-l\u2019\u0153il particuli\u00e8rement r\u00e9ussi a d\u00e9j\u00e0 donn\u00e9 \u00e0 de nombreux visiteurs l\u2019illusion de bas-reliefs !<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">L\u00e0-dessous, il y a un de ces merveilleux exemples de sculptures baroques flamandes : trois reliefs en marbre blanc de l\u2019autel baroque des
