Saint Andrew’s Church

In what used to be a working class district, which is now being taken over by fashion designers and antique shop owners, this late-Gothic church popped up, thanks to Augustinian friars. It has gone through a troubled history. Inside, the Baroque has the last word, thanks to the Baroque altars and a few magnificent 17th century works of art. Outstanding are the monument for Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, the high altar from the late abbey church of Hemiksem and the theatrical pulpit. In what used to be Rubens’s first parish church, a work by his master, Otto van Veen, is on display.
